Lead is one of the most commonly used metals in the sky, and is required for most gear crafting and base building projects. Anyone who wants to delve deeper into either system will need a steady supply of this raw material in their supply chain, and luckily, gathering clues can be done completely autonomously.

The Outpost isn't just what's shown in Starfield. If set up correctly, they can be turned into automated mining camps as a small part of a larger manufacturing network. Here's how to set up a self-sustaining lead mining operation.
Star Agriculture Leads
First, players need to find a planet that actually contains lead deposits. Jemison, home to the Union Colony, was rich in lead and relatively safe, making it the perfect location to establish an outpost.
Before landing, scan the earth and refer to resource maps for possible lead spawn locations. Once you find a good spot, set custom waypoints at that location to create a landing zone. After the player lands, use the helmet scanner to survey the surroundings and search for a patch of land containing lead. If there is any useful material hidden underneath the visor, the visor should protrude from the ground.
Next, place a beacon to activate the outpost, then place an extractor on the ground to begin harvesting lead. The extractor needs electricity to run, so build some windmills or solar panels to generate electricity. Also, make sure to place some storage containers so the material in the extractor doesn't spill out. There are many ways to increase the efficiency of mining outposts, but that's a story for a different time.
Lead Ore can also be found on rocks or cave walls on lead-bearing planets. It's best to harvest these resources as players travel to points of interest or objective markers, just to get some extra free resources.
Additionally, lead can often be found in grocery stores. They are relatively cheap and players should have no problem purchasing such resources in bulk. Be aware of their weight, as large amounts of lead can easily overload a player. Also, don’t forget that traders replenish their stocks after a while, so be sure to check regularly or forcefully pass the time by sleeping in bed or resting in a nearby chair.
Starfield is available now on PC and Xbox Series X/S.
