Continuing Skyrim's trend of being in the gaming spotlight, a fan created a mod for the epic 2011 title that not only overhauls one of the game's major cities, but also gives it a place worthy of oblivion. The arena appeared. Since its inception in the mid-90s, The Elder Scrolls installments have become some of the best offline RPGs of their generation. The fifth entry, in particular, continues to receive a lot of attention, even after nearly 12 years.
While Skyrim is by no means the largest open-world game out there, covering roughly 15 square miles, it offers players a lot to see and do, and fans still find something new after all this time. One of the other reasons TES5 is still as popular as ever can be seen in the modding community. There's so much customization thanks to the fans themselves, some of whom went to great lengths to overhaul major aspects of the vanilla experience.
As spotted by Gfinity, Nexus Mods user RedBag recently launched "Falkreath by RedBag," a Skyrim modification that, as the name suggests, focuses specifically on the city of Falkreath. In addition to some excellent changes to the settlement (including 10 new NPCs, "very detailed" and "unique houses") and the implementation of 4K textures, there is now an Oblivion-style arena for players to engage in. A video from the Capt. Panda YouTube channel shows off the mod, which makes the city's new asset look more alive, while also giving a glimpse into the arenas where combatants can be seen fighting. A video of the RedBag mod can be seen at the 3:32 mark.
One of Skyrim's major cities, Falkreath is familiar to all Dragonborn adventurers. While it doesn't have the ornate architecture of Markarth or the population density of Whiterun, it's still an important part of the TES5 experience. Anyone familiar with the location will immediately see the changes RedBag has made to the location, and they'll also be able to stop for a quick fight whenever they're in the arena.
While some fans may prefer Oblivion to Skyrim, there's no denying that the latter is the bigger commercial successor to its predecessor. Both entries in the series have helped shift the series from old-school RPGs to more action RPGs, but each game remains a beloved community favorite and mods keep popping up.
The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim - Anniversary Edition is now available for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
