Resident Evil 4 Remake follows Leon Kennedy and Ashley Graham as they try to escape the clutches of a deranged cult. At the beginning of the game, Leon can only rely on his SG-09 R pistol and combat knife to survive the first few enemy encounters, but as the story progresses, more weapons can be unlocked.
Leon can collect various guns in RE4 Remastered by solving puzzles and buying them from merchants, but some weapons, like heavy grenades, are harder to find. The last few chapters of the game can be very difficult, but a few heavy grenades can make completing them a lot easier.
What do heavy grenades do in Resident Evil 4 Remake?
When thrown, a heavy grenade deals massive damage to any enemies that happen to fall within its blast radius. It is much more powerful than the grenades found mainly between Chapters 1 and 9, and as such, it is generally harder to find.
That is, if the player knows how to craft a heavy grenade, it is more reliable to obtain a heavy grenade than a hand grenade.
How to craft heavy grenades in Resident Evil 4 Remake
Unlike the more common grenades, heavy grenades can actually be crafted through the crafting menu. Unfortunately, players won't be able to unlock the recipe for this impressive explosive until they reach Chapter 10, after which they can approach the merchant in the lobby and purchase the Recipe: Heavy Grenade.
Purchasing this recipe will cost Leon 12,000 pesetas, not much considering its usefulness in an emergency.
After purchasing the Recipe: Heavy Grenade, the player can craft the Heavy Grenade at any time, provided Leon has access to 12 Gunpowder and 1 Resource (L). Resources (L) can also be purchased from merchants, but players hoping to find large quantities of gunpowder will need to explore the world, open chests, and loot defeated enemies.
When crafted, Heavy Grenades are added to Leon's briefcase and take up two available slots.
Where to Find Heavy Grenades in Resident Evil 4 Remake
If players haven't purchased the Recipe: Heavy Grenade item from the Vendor, or are just struggling to find the materials they need to craft Heavy Grenades themselves, they can also find these explosives by exploring new areas and breaking yellow chests scattered throughout all around the world. However, finding heavy grenades this way can be a very unrewarding method, as they are so rare.
A slightly more reliable way to find heavy grenades is for the player to break a large number of crates in the area of the game's most recent autosave. If they can't get any heavy grenades, they can reload the most recent autosave and try again.
Doing so will cause the contents of the crate to change, improving the player's chances of finding a heavy grenade or two.
Resident Evil 4 Remake is out now on PC, PS4, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
